Lathe tool cutting Ordinary lathe as the cutting continues, the tool will gradually wear out, the way of tool passivation, in addition to wear, there are edge curling and edge chipping under
abnormal conditions. Tool durability is not the same as tool life. Tool life refers to the sum of the actual cutting time of a new tool until it is completely scrapped. After a period of time, due
to increased wear, the cutting performance is significantly reduced, so that it no longer meets the cutting requirements. This phenomenon is called tool passivation. Passivated knives are not
suitable for continued use and need to be sharpened in time.
The main factors affecting tool wear The factors affecting tool wear are basically the same as the factors affecting cutting temperature.
1 The rake angle of the tool angle is increased and the wear is reduced. However, if the rake angle is too large, the heat dissipation conditions will become poor, and it will be easy to wear.
The larger the relief angle, the less wear, but if the relief angle is too large, the heat dissipation volume is small, and the tool wear is accelerated. The main deflection angle increases, the
cutting temperature rises, and the tool is easy to wear.
2. Cutting amount Cutting speed has the greatest impact on tool wear, followed by feed rate, and the smallest is the amount of back cutting.
3 The higher the strength and hardness of the workpiece material, the greater the cutting force during cutting, and the higher the cutting temperature of ordinary lathes, the faster the tool
wear will be. When cutting materials with low thermal conductivity (such as stainless steel), the cutting temperature of the radial drilling machine is high, and the tool is easy to wear.
