Difficulties in processing high-temperature alloys

15 Oct 2024

1. High cutting heat: The thermal conductivity of high-temperature alloy materials represented by nickel-based alloys is small. The heat is not easy to diffuse during processing, and most of it

is concentrated in the cutting area, which will not only cause rapid wear of the tool, but also cause the workpiece to deform, and the surface quality and processing accuracy cannot be

guaranteed.

2. Large cutting force: Due to the high strength and good plasticity of high-temperature alloys, the cutting force required for cutting is greater than that of stainless steel, which is 2-5 times

that of alloy steel. Large cutting force is also prone to vibration.

3. Poor cutting processability: In order to ensure the thermal strength of high-temperature alloys, the strengthening phases in the alloy are more and more dispersed. The more strengthening

phases and the more dispersed, the better the thermal strength of the alloy, and the corresponding processing is worse. In addition, the plasticity of high-temperature alloys is large, and the

cutting deformation coefficient is about 1.5 times that of 45 steel, which is extremely difficult to process.

CBN blade models can be selected according to the processing materials

1. If you want to achieve high-speed cutting of high-temperature alloys such as turbine disks, you can use BDN80 grade cubic boron nitride blades for processing.

2. If it is intermittent rough machining of hard materials such as high-temperature alloy additive surfacing, you can choose BN-S20 brand cubic boron nitride blades for processing.

3. If it is the finishing of nickel-based alloy additive spray-welded parts, you can choose BN-H10 brand cubic boron nitride blades for processing. Its special chip breaker process can suppress

machining burrs and spray-welded layer peeling.

4. If it is pure nickel, pure tungsten, pure molybdenum and other refractory alloy materials, CDW010 brand PCD blades can be used, which can not only increase the cutting speed, but also

improve the cutting state by adding chip breakers, and improve the processing quality of the workpiece.
