1. Differences in performance between single crystal diamond tools and PCD diamond tools in various aspects


1. Material structure. Single crystal diamond tools are crystals of a single carbon atom. Pure diamond has strong binding force, stability and directionality, but poor toughness.

PCD diamond tools have added binding agents such as Co, and their hardness and wear resistance are still low. Compared with single crystal diamond, however, since the 

PCD sintered body is isotropic, it is not easy to crack along a single cleavage plane and has better toughness.


2. Processability. Since the hardness and wear resistance of single crystal diamond tools are higher than that of PCD diamond tools, the machinability of single crystal 

diamond tools is poor, and there is no advantage in weldability compared with PCD diamond tools.


3. Scope of application. Single crystal diamond tools are suitable for ultra-finishing machining of optical lenses, precision components, etc. PCD diamond tools can be used 

for rough machining and finishing, but are not suitable for processing organic composite materials.


4. Chemical stability. Single crystal diamond tools have high chemical stability because they are pure diamond, while PCD diamond tools have poor chemical stability due to 

the addition of binders and other substances.


5. Processing depth. Since single crystal diamond tools have poor toughness and are very sensitive to the depth of cut during processing, they need to strictly control the 

workpiece material, cutting speed and feed rate. However, PCD diamond tools with better toughness do not have too many restrictions. If the workpiece is cut If the margin is

large, PCD diamond tools can be used for rough machining first, and then single crystal diamond tools can be used for finishing.
