Finishing milling is usually carried out after roughing milling in order to improve the surface quality of the workpiece as well as the dimensional and form accuracy. In this milling process, smaller amounts of material are usually removed from the workpiece. Milling with finishing tools produces longer chips, which must be removed from the work area using compressed air or coolant. Compared to smooth-edged finishing tools, helical milling cutters with roughing also generate lower cutting forces and therefore require less drive force. Finishing tools particularly realize their potential when performing vibration-free machining on stable, high-performance machine tools due to their large cutting depths and good cooling effect. On the other hand, helical milling cutters with roughing are also suitable for machining under vibrating conditions.
